Foods to Increase Energy: Foods High in Nitric Oxide

Hello there! It’s Judy here, bringing you another exciting episode from my series specifically for the radiant folks in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and even 80s and beyond! And guess what? Today, we’re diving into one of my favorite topics – foods that give us energy by being naturally high in nitric oxide. But first, a quick refresher: I’m Judy Torel, your trusted health and nutrition coach, personal trainer, yoga guru, mastered degreed addictions counselor and an 11-time Iron Man triathlete. Can you believe it?

Here’s the deal: I’ve been in this industry for over 42 years, working tirelessly with my fabulous clients, translating the complicated science mumbo jumbo into  “Understandable Judy Language.” And today, I’m sharing all that hard-won knowledge with you.

Nitric Oxide: The Energy Booster

Hold up! Nitric oxide isn’t a food, I hear you say. You’re right. But certain foods contain nitrates, which our bodies convert to nitric oxide. Why do we need it? Because nitric oxide dilates our blood vessels. Imagine wider highways for blood flow, letting oxygen and nutrients rush into our cells, giving us that zesty burst of energy.

The Fabulous Foods

  1. Beets: Yes, the purple root vegetables that you either love or despise. They’re not only rich in antioxidants but also loaded with nitrates.
  2. Leafy Greens: Kale, spinach, arugula – these guys are also high in nitrates, making them a wonderful addition to your diet.
  3. Citric Fruits: Think oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. These beauties are high in vitamin C, which helps convert nitrates to nitric oxide.
  4. Dark Chocolate: Now, who wouldn’t want this on their list? Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids that aid in the conversion process. 90% of my clients are thrilled by this inclusion!
  5. Meats, Seafood, and Poultry: A tad controversial, but these sources are high in CoQ10, which not only helps to lower blood pressure but also boosts nitric oxide production.

Wrapping Up

Don’t get lost in the chaos of ‘top 10’ food lists. It’s not about one miracle food but understanding the systems of our incredible bodies. So, whether you’re working on your physique or just want a little extra pep in your step as you chase the grandkids, the above foods are a great start!
